Headlines

Think of the big ideas and important themes in what you have been learning

Write a headline for this topic or issue that summarizes and captures a key aspect that you feel is significant and important.

Purpose: To allow students to become reflective with their learning and to synthesize and identify the essence of a situation or learning experience.

For The Great Gatsby: Imagine you are writing a newspaper article to recap this entire story. What headline would you use (do not refer to Gatsby’s death soley… so no… Gatsby Dies).  Consider the entire story. Then, in two paragraphs or more explain why you chose this headline and why this seems important to you. Use scenes, characters, conflicts, etc to support your headline.

Student examples given:  All That Glitters is Not Gold; Egg of the Brokenhearted;

For Fall of the House of Usher, capture the feeling of the short story in a few words. Aim to summarize the story in a catchy saying.

Student examples given: Isolation leads to Personal Conflicts; Dark Places Breed Dark Conflicts; What is Inside Can Be Seen on the Outside
